ACT V

Act V Is a dive into a memory, reflecting on my time navigating on the water. This painting is the

image I carry rent-free in my mind of the early days of working on the water and learning to steer

a barge through the islands en route to Port Melon. It was a beautiful summer day, calm after the

storm of learning in the fire. A rare sanctuary amidst the numerous dark days before.

The goal of this painting was to challenge myself and my ability to freehand at scale. This was my

most challenging painting, mentally and physically. I remember buying the canvas without checking

if it would fit in my car; it barely fit. I’m guilty of “biting off more than I can chew.” This is

a good example of my patience with the project; I barely finished it.

FROM ONE DAGGER TO AN ARROW

“From One Dagger To An Arrow” Jumps into the duality of human nature, portraying personalities as

either daggers or arrows. Arrows symbolize those who prefer to operate from a distance, embracing

safety and clarity of purpose. While daggers represent the nature of those who operate close and

personal, This juxtaposition prompts introspection when faced with adversity and challenging

decisions while ignoring the centered reality of peace.

The goal for “From One Dagger To An Arrow” was to create a more technical design and test whether

it was readable how I wanted it to be. The result was impressive and may not have been precisely

what I wanted, but it was a technique worth repeating. The one thing I most enjoy with this

painting is its ability to change the lighting based on how each blue reacts differently to

changing light.
